From the Trustees: Entering the New Year, Together

From the Trustees of Benefits of Film
From the Trustees of Benefits of Film

As trustees, we spend a great deal of time thinking about the people behind the work.

We think about long days that turn into longer nights.

About contracts that end suddenly, and pauses that arrive uninvited.

About the physical toll, the mental load, and the quiet worries that don’t always make it into conversation.

So as we step into a new year, we want to begin by meeting you exactly where you are.

Whether you’re feeling hopeful, exhausted, steady, uncertain—or all of these at once—you are not alone in this community, and you are not unseen by this Trust.

As trustees of Benefits of Film, our role is to ensure members across the film industry have access to meaningful, sustainable health and wellness benefits—through every stage of their working lives.

Why We Do This Work

Benefits of Film exists because members before you believed that care should be collective, fair, and built by the industry for the industry.

As trustees, our responsibility is to honour that belief every day.

That means making decisions that are not always easy, but are always grounded in one principle: acting in the best interest of the membership as a whole—now and into the future. It means balancing sustainability with compassion, and listening carefully to how real lives are being lived behind the numbers.

Every benefit offered, every improvement made, every change considered begins with a question we return to again and again:

Does this meaningfully support our members and their families when it matters most?

Acknowledging the Reality of the Work

We know the work you do is demanding.

We know health challenges don’t wait for convenient timing.

We know navigating benefits can sometimes feel overwhelming—especially when you’re already carrying enough.

This is why clarity, access, and fairness are not just goals for us; they are responsibilities.

Over the past year, we have continued to strengthen the plan, respond to evolving needs, and look closely at how benefits are being used—not in theory, but in real life. We do this so the Trust remains strong, responsive, and there for you not just today, but years from now.

Moving into the New Year with Intention

As trustees, we are not focused on short-term wins or surface-level change. Our commitment is to long-term stability, thoughtful growth, and care that reflects the realities of this industry.

In the year ahead, we remain focused on:

  • Protecting the long-term health of the plan

  • Ensuring benefits are meaningful, usable, and relevant

  • Communicating more clearly and more consistently

  • Continuing to listen—especially when conversations are difficult

This work is ongoing. It evolves as the industry evolves. And it is strongest when members stay informed, engaged, and connected.

A Personal Note to Members

If there is one thing we hope you carry into the new year, it is this:

This Trust exists for you—not as an abstract idea, but as a living commitment shaped by people who care deeply about the wellbeing of this community.

We encourage you to use your benefits, ask questions, and reach out when you need support. Doing so does not weaken the plan—it fulfils its purpose.

As the New Year Begins

We enter this new year with humility, responsibility, and deep respect for the work you do.

On behalf of the Trustees, thank you for the trust you place in us. We are proud to serve this community, and we remain committed to moving forward together—with care, clarity, and purpose.
