Working Under Another Contract
Q: What if Tom works under another IATSE or DGC contract?
A: Tom can keep his coverage by directing the other employer's contributions to his current benefits plan. He needs to inform both locals before starting the new job.
One day, Tom was offered an exciting opportunity to work under a different IATSE contract with a new local. While thrilled about the chance, he knew he needed to ensure his benefits would continue seamlessly during the transition.
Tom began by contacting IATSE Local 891 to notify them of the change. They guided him on how to transfer his contributions from the new local back to his existing hour bank. He then reached out to the new IATSE local where he’d be working. The representatives there walked him through the steps to make sure his hours would be properly recorded and eventually transferred.
After completing the paperwork and coordinating between both locals, Tom logged into the AGA Benefit Solutions Member Portal to track the update. He knew from experience that it could take more than a few days for the contributions to appear in the system—so he gave it some time.
Sure enough, after a short delay, the contributions showed up in his hour bank, and Tom’s benefits remained uninterrupted.
This smooth transition reassured Tom that even when switching contracts, the system is designed to protect members and ensure their health coverage continues without gaps. For him, it was one more reason to value the structure and support the union provides.
