Global Medical Assistance Coverage

Q: What does Global Medical Assistance cover?

A: Emergency medical help when traveling more than 500 km from home or abroad.

James, a lighting technician, planned a cross-country road trip and wanted to know if the plan covered emergencies within Canada. He reached out to Tom for advice.

“Global Medical Assistance covers emergencies both outside Canada and when you’re over 500 kilometers from home within Canada,” Tom explained. “It includes things like hospital admissions, transportation to a suitable facility, and even bringing a family member to you if you’re hospitalized for over seven days.”

James asked about returning his car if he couldn’t drive due to illness. Tom added, “It covers up to $1,000 for vehicle return, so if something happens and you can’t drive, they’ll handle that too.”

Tom also pointed out, “Meals, trip cancellations, and lost luggage aren’t covered, so you might want separate travel insurance for those.”

James downloaded the Travel Assistance Card and noted the contact numbers. Feeling prepared, he thanked Tom for making the benefits clear and set off for his trip with peace of mind.
