Eligibility for Continued Coverage After Retirement
Q: Who is eligible for the 60+ Plan?
A: The 60+ Plan is available to IATSE Local 891 members who are aged 60 or older, have at least 20,000 reported hours, were previously enrolled in the Active Plan, and are no longer working enough hours to remain eligible for it.
As Tom approached retirement, he wanted to ensure he’d still have health coverage without the demands of full-time work. Curious about the 60+ Plan, he reached out to learn more about the eligibility requirements.
Tom discovered that the 60+ Plan is available to members of IATSE Local 891 who are 60 years of age or older, are no longer working enough hours to qualify for the Active Plan, and still want access to health benefits in retirement. But there was one more key requirement—he needed to have at least 20,000 reported hours under the union to be eligible.
He also learned that having previously been enrolled in the Active Plan made the transition smoother.
Feeling reassured, Tom appreciated knowing that even as he slowed down professionally, his benefits didn’t have to end. The clear eligibility criteria gave him the confidence to start planning this next chapter—knowing that the union’s support would continue well into his retirement.
