Continuing Coverage with a Lifetime of Service
Q: What is the minimum number of hours required to qualify for the 60+ Plan?
A: To qualify for the 60+ Plan, members must accumulate 20,000 IATSE 891 hours, including credits for membership before March 1, 1993. Self-payments, disability credits, and volunteer hours do not count.
As Tom approached retirement age, he wanted to ensure he would still have access to benefits through the 60+ Plan. He discovered that, to be eligible, he needed to have accumulated at least 20,000 IATSE 891 hours during his career.
Hours accumulated since March 1, 1993, as well as an additional 140 hours credited for each month of union membership before that date, counted toward this requirement. However, self-payments, disability credits, and volunteer hours did not contribute to this total.
Knowing that his years of hard work would support his coverage in retirement gave Tom peace of mind. He appreciated how the union had structured the plan to reward long-term members who had dedicated years to their careers in the film industry.
