Crystal Braunwarth

Trustee & Business Representative, IATSE 891

Crystal Braunwarth’s journey in the film and television industry began like many others—working long hours on set, immersed in the magic of storytelling. Yet, it wasn’t just the craft that inspired her; it was the people—the resilient individuals behind every production. Crystal quickly recognized that these workers, the lifeblood of the industry, needed more than appreciation. They needed someone who would advocate for their rights, safety, and future.

With over two decades of experience, Crystal now serves as the elected Business Representative for IATSE 891. Her early days on set shaped her lifelong mission: to ensure that no one has to choose between their livelihood and their well-being. From negotiating contracts to championing worker safety, Crystal’s work embodies her unwavering commitment to the workforce that powers the industry.

In response to the growing challenges of climate realities, Crystal spearheaded the development of the Union’s Heat Stress and Wildfire apps. These tools empower crew members to advocate for their own safety, addressing the very conditions Crystal witnessed during her time on set. Her hands-on approach ensures that every voice is heard and valued.

A project close to Crystal’s heart is the reimagined pilot trainee program, designed to provide mentorship and break down barriers for underrepresented individuals in the industry. This initiative reflects her belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to thrive. Watching newcomers grow under the guidance of experienced mentors reminds her of the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse industry.

From her role as Women’s Committee Chair to her work as a Health Trustee for IATSE 891, Crystal’s leadership has always been driven by the stories of the people she serves. The struggles, triumphs, and shared experiences of workers fuel her determination to advocate for meaningful support and opportunities. For Crystal, this work is about more than just policy—it’s about ensuring that every member of the industry is seen, heard, and valued.

As Crystal continues to advocate for the workforce behind the cameras, she remains focused on creating a sustainable, inclusive, and supportive industry. Her dedication ensures that every member has access to the resources and support they need to thrive—now and in the future.
